Description

The next testing date will be held on January 27, 2026, at UNL East Campus, Keim Hall, Room 150.

Study materials are included with your registration and are provided electronically to help you prepare before exam day. To request study materials, please complete this form: NCNLP Practical Exam Study Guide Request

Testing includes three sections: Manual/General, Landscape Design, and Plant Identification.

This certification is individual-based - please use your personal information to register.

Testing is held twice a year at a date/time determined by the NCNLP Committee.

2027 TESTING DATE INFORMATION

Testing will be held at UNL East Campus, Keim Hall, Room 150

Testing will begin at 10:00 a.m. You may leave after you finish the design section of the exam.

Agenda for the exam

9:00 – Committee available for questions

10:00 – Manual section

11:00 – Plant ID section

12:00 to 1:00 – Lunch

1:00 – Design section

If you are retaking specific sections of the exam, you only need to be present when those sections are scheduled to be given.

You will be on your own for lunch. Eating establishments nearby include the UNL Union cafeteria, Valentino’s, and Cultiva, or you are welcome to bring your own.

For the design portion, you will need to bring drafting tools - pencil, scale, ruler, circle template, and any other tools you like for hand drafting.

Joel Kayser will be the proctor for the exam with other members of the NCNLP committee. 

Location and Parking Details

The test will be held at the UNL East Campus, Keim Hall, Room 150, Lincoln. Park in the A/C Judging Pavilion Lot (entrance on Fair St.). Once parked, go to the testing room (Keim Hall Room 150), you will be given a parking pass to place in your vehicle for the day.

Cancellation Policy: If you cancel within ten days before the testing date, you will be granted a full refund. Less than ten days prior, a refund of half the amount paid will be issued. Refunds will not be granted to anyone who does not present the day of the testing. Fees may not be transferred.

NCNLP Manual Update: The NCNLP Committee has been revising the NCNLP manual and have complete the revision of the Plant ID list that will be used for testing. If you purchased your manual before December 2022, you can disregard chapters 4, 5, and 14 as the information included in those chapters will not be included in future exams. Contact the NNLA office for an updated Plant ID list that will be used for the exam.
